Maria Sigma is an award-winning London based maker of ethical, high-quality textiles designed to become timeless heirlooms. Maria follows a rigorous zero-waste philosophy,  considering the environmental impact at all the stages of her design and making processes.

Wool is her material of choice because of its excellent qualities and its transformable character, especially natural undyed British wool produced with reduced chemicals, energy and water. Maria is expert in double cloth – the challenging weaving technique involving two warps and two wefts, woven alternatively and simultaneously so that one warp is underneath, invisible to the weaver: double the time to make, but allowing more complex patterns and textures.

This collection is inspired by the book ‘The Misunderstood Monsters of Greek Mythology’ and its illustrations. As each of Maria’s pieces take a long time to weave she creates special connections with them. “I feel them more as creatures than creations. Each one has its own character, flaws and its particular requirements and limitations.”
