GLASS | LONDON
Does the material in your piece hold any personal memories or stories for you?
Glass and colour have been fundamental to my practice for decades and connect to many memories. In fact, glass and vitreous enamel were a part of my childhood as I grew up with stained glass in the house created by my mother in the 60s.
Glass allows the colour in my work to resonate, and tell the Paradise stories in full. These sculptures are designed to evoke escapism, based on tropical flora and vegetation. Saturated glass colour, and the polished luminosity of this material depicts the seduction of vivid exotic flowers, sunlight on crystal clear water, feathers, coral etc. These are experiences catalogued over my lifetime, spent in other locations.
