How does your technique bring out the hidden stories of the material you use?
Our studio uses local oak for fine furniture making. This non-commercial grade timber is from trees blown down in storms, or individually felled in our bluebell wood, on local estates or farms as part of sustainable timber management. By using this timber we draw attention to the beauty and potential of Perthshire oak, and support a woodland cultural heritage involving land owners, foresters, tree surgeons and sawmills. Our workshop teaches and develops traditional woodwork to craft contemporary fine furniture, pieces that we hope will be treasured for generations. Good woodland management protects and improves our exceptionally bio-diverse, precious native broadleaf woodland, and helps mitigate climate change.
