Belgin Bozsahin

emotion and subtle movement

CERAMICS | LONDON

How does your technique bring out the hidden stories or emotions of the material you use?

I am drawn to what lies beneath the surface in material and human experience. Porcelain, delicate yet resilient, allows me to give form to these hidden layers. From my earliest work with the female body in oil painting to my current practice, I have been drawn to the balance between delicacy and fortitude, subtlety and persistence. My practice explores contrasts: polished versus textured, outer versus inner, and seen versus hidden.

Through press-moulding, layering, carving, and sometimes adding gold leaf or lustre, I allow the porcelain to hold traces of emotion and subtle movement. Gold leaf and lustre mark the strength within the form and the material itself. Each mark captures breath and gesture, turning the clay into a record of memory.
