Does the material in your piece hold any personal memories or stories for you?
Using red clay allows me to dig my hands into the earth as I work. The warmth of the colour, plasticity, and stickiness of the clay in my fingers creates a connection to a lifetime of gardening. When I am planting seeds or feeding the soil it gives me hope that there is a positive future — and on a personal and emotional level that’s what I want to create in clay. This is not a memory of experience but a way of living.
