Deborah Timperley

landscape and seascape of Skye

GLASS  | WEST SUSSEX

How does your craft help you explore memories, and is there a specific moment that inspired this piece?

My pieces are rooted in places I’ve visited. This harbour wall is distilled from memories of a holiday on the Isle of Skye. My rocky sculptures began on the east coast of Scotland when I took part in a course exploring ideas around the architecture of form.

I now have a keen interest in photography, hence the visit to Skye. This harbour wall is inspired not only by the harbour in Portree at low water, but also by the colours of the landscape and seascape of Skye.

And memories also of my family waiting patiently while I compose the right picture!
