About:
Janine Partington creates leather wall panels, hand carved with linocut tools and then painted with acrylic paints. Janine uses this medium to convey thoughts and feelings about the world around her. Concepts she has explored include dementia and memory loss, making connections, family stories and memories and, inevitably, the current pandemic.
Janine is strongly drawn to the colour yellow, mainly focusing on its positive energy and its warmth. This led to the creation of a proliferation of hopeful suns during the pandemic. Thinking of the correlation between harvest and bounty and the sun, Janine has created a series of carved and painted leather panels and vessels that are linked by this theme of plenty. Whilst thinking about the sun, Janine also became fascinated by the corona of an eclipse as the sun dips into and emerges from that state of obscured brightness. “All my pieces stand alone but also come organically from the creation of the one before, leading me through a sometimes unexpected journey of discovery.”
