Anna Rennie’s approach to silversmithing is both thoughtful and deeply rooted in tradition. She blends form and function, with an understanding of her material and its potential to create pieces that invite interaction.
Inspiration comes from the impact of weather on her natural surroundings. Anna questions our impact on the weather, and has begun a quiet dialogue between material, maker, and meaning.
Drinking vessels (beakers, cups and goblets) are her chosen pieces to make, although Anna also enjoys making teapots, bowls, and spoons. At times she chooses to emphasise detail by using chasing or repousse, or simply a hammer for texture. Often the piece is simply left without detail. There is something very pure about letting the form itself be the detail. Every step of creating and making is done by Anna: she sinks, raises, planishs, fabricates and polishes until the piece is ready to be sent away for interior gold plating and hallmarking.
Cycling is a large part of Anna’s life too; she rides regularly. By moving through landscapes at a pace that allows for real observation, she can identify (and photograph) interesting shapes and forms which are taken back to her studio in Cornwall.
The Swept by the Wind range is available in many options; as a set of 5 pieces, individually, sets of cups in 2/4/6 or a quantity of your choice. The range is also set to be increased, please speak to Anna to find out more about her new designs.
