Michelle House specialises in bespoke painted and printed textile artworks. Trained at Goldsmiths College, Michelle prides herself on creating beautiful, hand-made pieces, using hand-printing textile techniques and a skillful use of colour. Carefully selected dyes and pigments are hand-printed in layers of varying opacity onto linen and heavy cotton satin, utilising silk screens to combine imagery from Michelle’s photographs along with hand-cut stencils. Clients include Peter Jones (Sloane Square), Broomfield Hospital, Hove Poly Clinic and the British Academy, on the recommendation of Sir Nicholas Goodison.
Michelle says, “A connection exists between textiles, my mother and myself. Material memories from childhood, of her creating with a multitude of fabrics, has influenced my work over the years. Strong colour and striking patterns are imprinted in my memory and re-surface, providing inspiration for my geometric and architecturally influenced textile artworks.
